In Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. When the time limit decreases to 100 time units (10 time units in Super Mario Run, except in Toad Rally) or below, the ' Hurry Up' jingle plays to alert the player is running low on time and the level's music speeds up (except in Super Mario Land, where the music is just played faster without the jingle). A timer's count is approximately 0.6 or 0.7 seconds in most games. If the timer reaches zero, the player loses one life regardless of power-up form, including invincibility from a Super Star (and if time runs out when the player has no more lives, they receive a Game Over).

It remains to be seen if Super Mario can join that illustrious club. Illumination is best known for the Despicable Me and Sing franchises, and has two billion-dollar hits under its belt already. The film's box office performance marks yet another win for Illumination, which is quickly emerging as an animation house to be reckoned with. But Super Mario’s tremendous performance right out of the gate means that we’re probably going to get more of these movies over the next several years. While the 2018 Tomb Raider film ($274 million worldwide) was considered a moderate success, mostly because it cost relatively less to produce, the planned sequel never saw the light of day. And then there are the high-profile flops such as Prince of Persia: Sands of Time ($336 million worldwide) and Assassin’s Creed ($240 million worldwide), both of which failed to launch their respective franchises.

This effectively scuttled plans for a sequel. Warcraft grossed more than $400 million globally, but it also cost over $160 million to produce, and bombed domestically with just $47 million. Video game adaptations have been rather hit or miss historically, both in terms of quality and commerce.
